Nature of God

Not Jehovah’s Witness, but a False Prophet

by Bill Wong

The Jehovah’s Witnesses (Watchtower Society) is most well-known for their belief that the Lord Jesus Christ is a created being, the archangel Michael. However, we must not be blinded into thinking that this is the only doctrine the Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that is false. This is because Satan has very successfully led most people to believe there are only two “answers” to the nature of the Lord Jesus: that either He is a created being or He is deity in a Trinity doctrine. As we have said elsewhere, Jesus is deity and not created, but His deity is not as defined in a Trinity doctrine.

So because Satan “offers” people only two wrong choices, we must not depend on the deity of Christ debate alone to show why the Jehovah’s Witnesses are not following God’s Word and are not really witnesses for God’s Bible truth. There are many other reasons to not follow the Jehovah’s Witnesses – they teach many other false doctrines.

One such false doctrine is that the Jehovah’s Witnesses organization has proven itself to be a false prophet.

The Watchtower Society claims it is the prophet of God on earth and receives its revelation from angels.  It should be noted, however, that the apostle Paul warns us to not believe anything that is contrary to the Bible truth about the Lord Jesus Christ – even if it is given by angels:

Galatians 1:

6        I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel;

7        which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.

8        But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you,

        he is to be accursed!   (NASB)

Nevertheless, is the Watchtower Society really God’s prophet or a false prophet?

A prophet of God belongs to God.  A false prophet then is one who claims he is of God, but really is not as evident by their words and actions.  The Bible gives us various definitions of what makes a false prophet. For instance:

a.   Prophets are not of God and are false prophets if their prophecies do not come true:

Deuteronomy 18:

20      'But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.'

21      "You may say in your heart, 'How will we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?'

22      "When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.   (AKJV)

b.   Prophets are not of God and are false prophets if they use signs and wonders to deceive including leading people to follow other gods:

Matthew 24:

  24         For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; so that,

           if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.   (AKJV)

Deuteronomy 13:

1        "If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder,

2        and the sign or the wonder comes true, concerning which he spoke to you, saying,

        'Let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them,'

3        you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams;

        for the LORD your God is testing you to find out if you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

4        "You shall follow the LORD your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him,

        and cling to Him.

5       "But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has counseled rebellion against the LORD your God who brought you from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, to seduce you from the way in which the LORD your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from among you.   (NASB)

c.   Prophets are not of God and are false prophets if they state that the Lord Jesus did not come in the flesh:

1 John 4:

1        Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God;

        because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

2        By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,

3        and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

The evidence of a false prophet is most clear and identifiable when the issue in question is prophecy – either the prophecies come true or they do not.  God knows all and cannot lie. Therefore a prophecy that does not come true points out the fact that the prophet who gave it is not from God and is a false prophet.

The Watchtower Society has made many prophecies which never came true. As an example, it has predicted the end of the world or Armageddon/return of the Lord Jesus Christ five different times: 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975, 1989.

When Jesus did not come in 1914, they then said He came to set up an invisible heavenly kingdom.  This invisible kingdom is what they refer to as Christ’s second coming.

Once when a false prophet is discovered, this should tell us all we need to know about the false prophet. We must disassociate ourselves from them; anything that comes from them cannot be trusted to be from God. The Watchtower Society has shown without any doubt that it is not God’s prophet, but it is a false prophet.

Please, do not turn a blind eye to this. Search for yourself to see if what has been said is so. Dig into your organization’s history and what it teaches. Be objective. It has shown itself to be a false prophet. False prophets must be avoided.

The earnest seekers of God’s truth will search for themselves to see if the Watchtower Society is indeed a false prophet and once they find out it is what will you do?   God’s truth is all that matters and it alone will set us free.   You must break free.

Remember what we read in Deuteronomy 18:22 --- we should not be afraid of a false prophet.

Truth is all that matters. Our eternal destiny is what matters, not what any persecution we might experience here on earth.
