Signs of the Times

"When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.'  And in the morning, 'There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.'  Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?"

The Dangers of Yoga

by Bill Wong

Contrary to the Bible

Yoga is practiced by many people today, even by Christians/believers in the Bible as the only source of truth.  There is even supposedly “Christian yoga”.  But should Christians do yoga?  Should anyone do yoga?  What does the Bible say about yoga?  People think that it is just a way to relax or some form of physical exercise and is harmless.  However, the truth is that yoga is very dangerous and goes against everything about God and Christ in the Bible (Christ derives from Greek; Messiah derives from Hebrew).  There are many dangers of yoga.

The Bible states that God is a person, YAH (short-form for YHWH, the 4 Hebrew letters for God’s name, often pronounced Yahweh or Jehovah and translated in English Bibles as “the LORD”), and mankind has fallen in sin.  To re-establish our relationship with Him and reconcile man to Him, God’s only-begotten son Yahusha (Yeshua/Jesus; Yahusha and Yeshua are from Hebrew/Aramaic and Jesus is English from Greek) atoned for our sins.  He has risen/ascended and will return to establish the Kingdom of God and destroy the enemy Satan (in Hebrew, haSatan means “the adversary”), sin and death.  By God’s grace and the willing sacrifice of Yeshua, we are given the gift of everlasting life to return once again to the loving relationship we once had with God.

However, yoga is Eastern pagan religion originating from India and Hinduism which believes there is no person God, but instead believes that the impersonal cosmos/universe is the ultimate reality/“God” (called “brahman”); and the goal is to become “one” and be melded in with the “brahman”.  Indeed, the word ‘yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit word for ‘yoke’ meaning to be ‘yoked with’ or ‘united or in union with’.  Yoked to what?  It means to be yoked with or in union with “brahman”.  So this is the definition of yoga: to achieve the union of self with the “infinites self” which is this impersonal “brahman”, the cosmos/universe “God”.  This attempt to become one with this false “God” of the cosmos/universe is seen when this Eastern paganism talks about achieving “enlightenment” or nirvana to break the cycle of death/life/death/life (reincarnation) to become “free” of everything – the physical, the spiritual, mental, etc., to become one with the universe.

The focus of the religion behind yoga is to convince people they are just one little piece in the vast universe where they will find happiness in becoming lost in it. This false religion is the ultimate example of nihilism: where existence and just living is considered worthless and senseless.  The intrinsic value of who you are as special individual persons is lost.  What is worse is that people do not know it – they are deceived to think it is harmless or that they are happy, when in reality they are killing themselves.  They are being deceived to worship death and oblivion which is the destroyer (Satan), and to not have a relationship with the God of the Bible that gives true eternal life.

What the religion which yoga comes from teaches is a loss of identity which is the very opposite of what the Bible teaches, YAH’s truth.  The Bible is all about identity:  who we are as sons and daughters of YAH grafted in with Israel to the root of life that is His son Yeshua; and who we are as the bride of Messiah/Christ.  And we are special individuals, because of these relationships we have with YAH and Yeshua:

We are the children of God:

John 1:

9    There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.

10   He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.

11   He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.

12   But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

13   who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.    (NASB)

Romans 8:

14   For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

15   For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."

16   The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

17   and if children, then heirs --- heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.   (NKJV)

We are grafted in together with Israel:

Romans 11:

7    What then? What Israel is seeking, it has not obtained, but those who were chosen obtained it, and the rest were hardened;

8    just as it is written, "God gave them a spirit of stupor, Eyes to see not and ears to hear not, Down to this very day."

9    And David says, "Let their table become a snare and a trap, And a stumbling block and a retribution to them.

10   "Let their eyes be darkened to see not, And bend their backs forever."

11   I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous.

12   Now if their transgression is riches for the world and their failure is riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be!

13   But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry,

14   if somehow I might move to jealousy my fellow countrymen and save some of them.

15   For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

16   If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.

17   But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree,

18   do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you.

19   You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in."

20   Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear;

21   for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either.

22   Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.

23   And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.

24   For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?

25   For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery--so that you will not be wise in your own estimation--that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in;

26   and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, "The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob."

27   "This is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins."    (NASB)

We are the bride of Messiah/Christ:

Ephesians 5:

22   Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

23   For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.

24   But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.

25   Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,

26   so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,

27   that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.

28   So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;

29   for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,

30   because we are members of His body.

31   For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

32   This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.

33   Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.     (NASB)

Revelation 19:

7    "Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready."

8    It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

9   Then he said to me, "Write, 'Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.'" And he *said to me, "These are true words of God."    (NASB)

Indeed, it is not mere identity and personhood, but we are made in the image of God:

Genesis 1:

26   Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."    (NASB)

We can see the Bible truth that it is not just about our identity, but it is also about relationship with the God who created us.  Identity and relationship go together forever, and it is the tie that binds our Heavenly Father, His son and all people together as a family.  The Bible speaks of not just any relationship, but relationship in the context of a loving family.

Again, yoga is the opposite of YAH’s truth.  God is a person, not the universe.  The universe is part of the creation, but YAH is the Creator.   We become one with YAH by each individual person becoming part of His family through being the bride of His son Yeshua – and not being absorbed into the cosmos.  We are not reincarnated to eventually become nothing and supposedly “freed” from all things: body, mind and spirit, or the “material world” which yoga teaches.  Instead, God’s truth is that we become much more as persons: our entire person becomes magnified, glorified to the nth degree, to be like the resurrected Messiah.

Also, the way its believers try to achieve enlightenment is through entering “higher” states of consciousness (through transcendental meditation, breathing, mantras, etc.) and practicing yoga exercises.  This is a distorted and false “salvation” and is additionally works-based.  The Bible teaches repentance of sin, God’s grace and the free gift of eternal life:

Acts 2:

38   Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.    (NASB)

Ephesians 2:

8    For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;

9    not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

10   For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.    (NASB)

It should be noted that this type of meditation and prayer (eg. transcendental meditation) has influenced Roman Catholicism long ago and is on the rise today in Catholicism and also Protestantism.

And this is where the deception, confusion and opposing nature of yoga to the Heavenly Father and Messiah is once again clearly made manifest.  Though it is truly veiled nihilism, yoga not only deceives people to try to become one with the cosmos, it also makes them believe that during their enlightenment, they can become “gods”.  This is because it believes that everything is “God” and “God” is everywhere, and therefore man must certainly be gods as well.  Yoga teaches it is not about man’s fall in sin, but that we are all gods, and we are only ignorant of this “truth” and must once again realize that we are gods.  Does the idea that men and women are gods or their desire to want to become gods (be like God) sound familiar?

Yes, it is the original deception of the enemy, Satan.  He convinced the first people, Adam and Eve that they would be as gods, and made them fall in sin:

Genesis 3:

1    Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?"

2    The woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat;

3    but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'"

4    The serpent said to the woman, "You surely will not die!

5    "For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

(NASB)

The enemy to this very day is still deceiving people to believe they are gods and can once again become the gods they supposedly forgot they were, and to become God as one with reality/the cosmos.  No, we are not gods nor can we become God.  YAH’s truth is that we are glorified and become part of His family.

There is much confusion.  This yoga/Eastern religion teaches that existence/the cosmos is “God” which is not a person, but yet we as persons are also gods to become one with the impersonal god that is the cosmos/universe.  And in becoming one, we are supposed to become part of the “universal consciousness” (which is not a person, but consciousness applies to personhood).   No, the Bible truth is that we are persons – children of the person YAH – YHWH God, and the bride of His only-begotten son, the person Yeshua. The Almighty God in the Bible is not a God of confusion, but Satan the enemy is.

So we see yoga is the simultaneous worship of “self” as god and worshiping other gods (disguised as the universe).  It is really the worship of oblivion (death/non-existence), and is pagan worship.  It should not be surprising that the enemy Satan follows the pattern he used in Genesis 3 and deceives many using this yoga/Eastern religion with its belief we are gods with the goal of becoming nothing or one with the cosmos/“God” (which is dying without knowledge of the one true God of the Bible) – the enemy is a liar and murderer from the beginning:

John 8:

44   "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.    (NASB)

Both forms of false god worship leads people away from the worship of the one true God who promises eternal life in a glorified body which He showed in the example of His son who atoned for our sins.  It is idolatry.  In both cases: worship of self as god, and worshiping the universe as god, yoga is doubly worshiping the creation and not the Creator, the God of the Bible.

With its beliefs in reincarnation, being absorbed into the cosmos, etc. yoga is just another distortion of what happens when we die.  It takes away from the truth of who we are as children of God as well as the truths of sin and atonement and the resurrection of our bodies after the model of Christ.

It is not exercise

But isn’t yoga just breathing and stretching exercises?  No; yoga plays perhaps the most critical role in drawing people into the trap of this pagan Eastern religion.  Since it “looks” like exercise, it is easy to be deceived by it.  It has existed for thousands of years and some form of it is always present in pagan religions/occultism and mysticism (for example, parts of it are used in “New Age” occultism).  It made major headway into the United States of America when the music band, the Beatles engaged in this Eastern mysticism and brought it to the states in the mid to late 1960s. It was part of the “hippie” and “sex, drugs and rock & roll” culture that is every bit a major force along with the sex, drugs and rock & roll (music) that has shaped America over the last 50 years to the present, and coincides with the decline in American morals.  Yoga has taken root and grown exponentially as evidenced today:  yoga is everywhere and no one even knows or cares about yoga coming from Eastern paganism.

However, it is not “exercise” and there are two major reasons why everyone, and especially Christians, should stay as far away from yoga as possible.

1)   The actions in yoga (breathing, movements, hand and body positions, etc.) are specifically designed to manipulate your body and mind.  It is meant to prepare the body and mind by changing the energy within (manipulating your “energy centers” called “chakras”), emptying the mind and actually changing your mind – to reach other/”higher” states of consciousness, so that you are entangled in the pagan religious idea that you are nothing and must strive to become absorbed into “God” which is the universe.  It makes you move away from the one true God of the Bible.  The physical actions in yoga are an intrinsic and vital part of this false religion that seeks to change you mentally and spiritually.

Therefore the actions in yoga cannot be separated from pagan occultism as “harmless” exercise.  The actions in yoga are part of the pagan occultism; the actions are not exercise or useless and without purpose.  No, yoga is very purposeful: it is not merely to empty your body and mind, but it is to change you and open up and fill your body and mind with other energy, states of consciousness and “spirituality”.  What energy, consciousness and spirituality?  Or stated another way: what other mind or spirit does it try to put in you?  In yoga, this other mind or spirit does not come from YHWH or Yeshua.

What yoga seeks to do is leave you completely open and defenseless for the enemy Satan and his dark forces to enter you and change you, to control and use you; to steer you away from and in the end, take you completely away from our God and our Messiah in order to destroy you.   Yoga works to put an un-Godly mind and spirit in you.  Yoga is the gateway by which the enemy tries to enter and draw you in and destroy you.  Yoga is trying to yoke you with the enemy.  This is why all people – even Christians, must steer clear from yoga at all costs.

Our body and mind is our temple, and we must have the spirit of God dwell within our temple:

1 Corinthians 3:

16   Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

17   If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.    (NASB)

1 Corinthians 6:

19   Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you,

which you have from God? You are not your own,

20   for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.    (WEB)

We must not allow the temple of our body and mind to be desecrated with false spirits, which is exactly what yoga works toward.  The whole purpose of yoga is to prepare and change you to allow the demonic forces behind it to enter you, and most people do not know it, because yoga has deceived them under the false pretense of being “just exercise”.

When the Bible teaches us not to commit adultery, it does not only refer to the physical act.  It refers to what is inside of us, in our hearts and minds:

Matthew 5:

27       "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery';

28   but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.    (NASB)

Therefore, the Bible tells us that adultery is also a spiritual act.  The spirit of God is in us – the temple of our bodies, and is what seals us as the bride of Messiah to become part of God’s family.  God defines adultery as running after other gods and other things:

Isaiah 54:

5    "For your husband is your Maker, Whose name is the LORD of hosts; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, Who is called the God of all the earth.

6    "For the LORD has called you, Like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, Even like a wife of one's youth when she is rejected," Says your God.    (NASB)

Ezekiel 16:

32   You are an adulterous wife, who takes strangers instead of her husband.    (NKJV)

We should have within us the mind of Christ:

1 Corinthians 2:

16   For "who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.    (NKJV)

What we should have within us is God’s spirit and what we should meditate on with both our mouth and within us is the one and only Almighty God, YAH:

Psalm 19:

14   Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, YAHWEH, my rock, and my redeemer.    (WEB)

We should have Him in our hearts and minds only and always, and love Him with every ounce and fiber of our being:

Mark 12:

29   Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.

30   And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment.    (NKJV)

The Bible says a believer should renew their minds in God:

Romans 12:

1         I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

2    And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.     (NKJV)

However, what yoga works to do is to enter our minds and body to push out the spirit of Messiah and God within us in order to replace it.  Yoga attempts to affect and renew our minds to its pagan religion/mysticism.  It tries to renew your mind away from what is holy in the Bible into something else, and this something else is demonic and not of God.  When we engage in yoga, we are being deceived into sinning against God by committing adultery with other gods/spirits and the things of this world.

2)   The Bible tells us we must not engage in behaviors that are antithetical to God and the worship of Him, but we must renew the spirit of our minds to be like God – to be righteous and holy in truth:

Ephesians 4:

17   So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind,

18   being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart;

19   and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.

20   But you did not learn Christ in this way,

21   if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus,

22   that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit,

23   and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

24   and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.    (NASB)

The Bible tells us that being a new person in Messiah means we must imitate Messiah; we must imitate His father, YHWH God:

Matthew 5:

48   "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.     (NASB)

1 Corinthians 11:

1    Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.    (NKJV)

To be a new person in Messiah who imitates Him and God therefore of course includes not copying the behavior and actions of pagan ideas and religions such as the breathing and other practices in yoga.  Surely if we have the mind of Messiah within us and therefore will imitate Him, we cannot do that which is evil.  To further emphasize this point and drive it home, the Bible tells us to stop ourselves from being a part of and actually doing any evil, including even appearing to do evil.  So we must not do yoga which God considers to be evil, because it comes from paganism and dark spiritual forces:

1 Thessalonians 5:

19   Quench not the Spirit.

20   Despise not prophesyings.

21   Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

22   Abstain from all appearance of evil.     (AKJV)

Doing the movements, etc. of yoga is an appearance or “form” of evil, because we are actually imitating something which has ungodly/demonic origin.  And remember, the physical and mental activity in yoga are not harmless exercise, but are purposely designed to open you up and draw you into its demonic sphere, so we must doubly not be involved with yoga in any manner.  We must not be imitating the actions of pagan occultism, because when we do so, we are performing acts of worship to these other gods/spirits.

God tells us in His Bible that we must copy what is good – not evil, and this includes copied movements from pagan worship:

3 John 1:

11   Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.    (NKJV)

And again, if we say we are believers in Messiah and share His cup, we cannot at the same time share in the cup of demons which is what yoga and other Eastern religions are.  The enemy Satan and his demons are behind every form of evil and most notably the evil of paganism which targets you to worship false gods instead of the God of the Bible:

1 Corinthians 10:

16   Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ?

17   Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread.

18   Look at the nation Israel; are not those who eat the sacrifices sharers in the altar?

19   What do I mean then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?

20   No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in demons.

21   You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.    (NASB)

Letting the enemy in

The Lord Yahusha (Yeshua/Jesus) illustrates the point that we must not leave our minds and bodies open to the enemy, but must guard our minds and bodies.  We must not fall for the deception that yoga is “just exercise”, because in reality it is a gateway (invitation and entrance) for the enemy to come into our lives and into us, to come in and influence our minds/hearts and break us down spiritually.

In Luke 11, Messiah taught in parables that if we are in Him and He in us, a person can be strong to protect his home (himself) to keep everything pure and in order:

Luke 11:

21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are undisturbed.

22 But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder.

23  He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me, scatters.

24 “ When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding any, it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’

25 And when it comes, it finds it swept and put in order.

26 Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first.”      (NASB)

Yeshua is telling us that we must be strong to protect what is ours (verses 21-23).  In this parable, He is not actually talking about guarding the physical (our house and possessions), but He is talking about guarding our mind/inner man – the temple of our mind and heart, as we can see in verses 24-26.

How do we become strong so that we will not be overcome by other spirits which seek to break into our house/mind and fill it with evil spirits?  We do so by making sure that we are filled with the spirit of YHWH God and Messiah; YHWH God and Yeshua must dwell within the temple of our mind/body.  We are NOT to leave our minds empty to allow a different consciousness/mind or spirit from Eastern paganism/gods to enter in and reside there.

The words of Messiah in Luke 11:21-26 applies directly to yoga.  Yoga seeks to supposedly empty yourself, but it is in reality to fill you with what is ungodly and demonic.  When we say demonic, this does not necessarily mean demonic possession (though it can), but we mean things that Satan plants within you to lead you away from God and Messiah, and more and more into other things such as the fleshly/carnal ways of this world; things such as hate/murder, lust/adultery, conceit, greed of money & material things, etc.  We must understand that the influence of Satan upon people is not just the “obvious” like his demons, but the enemy’s influence is everything that takes us away from the truth of God and His only-begotten son, the Messiah, and walking our lives righteously in them.   It can also affect your mental state and make you excessively depressed or anxious, feel you are losing your mind, etc.

The enemy is constantly looking for your defenses to be down – for your mind and heart to be open for him to attack.  We are told to always be alert and on guard against the enemy:

1 Peter 5:

8    Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

9     But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.     (NASB)

We cannot let our guards down and let something else move into our temple – our mind and body.  If we are fooled into believing that yoga is “just exercise”, then we are doing exactly that: letting the guards of our minds and bodies down and inviting the enemy to come in.

The physical actions of yoga can be likened to a key.  This key is what the enemy needs to open the door into our abode. As we said, the physical parts of yoga are not exercise and they are not harmless and it has a purpose.  It prepares you – like a complex key that unlocks cylinder after cylinder/layers and layers of the lock for your defense, until it finally reaches the final door of your innermost being and just kicks it down.  Yeshua warned us that we must be strong to not let an enemy come in, so why would we just give him the key to gain entry/access to us?

Yoga is the gateway/invitation to allow the enemy in so we must not do yoga at all.  Remember that some people get addicted to drugs on the very first try, so we should not even start at all.  Do not give the enemy the key, the way to gain entry to you, at all.  He will take full advantage of it.  It is dangerous.  Everyone, not just Christians, must know the dangers of yoga. We are talking about not just your life, but eternal life. If you are doing yoga, then please stop immediately.  And if you do not have the spirit of God, then move on it; as the apostle Peter said in Acts 2:38 we read above: repent (turn away from sinning) and be baptized in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.

Even having the world’s best security system in your house would be totally useless if you turn it off and a criminal has deceived you to think that he is the repair man you called for when he is not, and then he gains entry into your house – this is what yoga is. It is the key you give or door you open willingly to an enemy, because you have been deceived that he is a friend.  Yoga tricks you into thinking that it is something else – a wolf in sheep’s clothing, “just exercise” and not another spirit seeking to get in.  This causes you to let down your defenses, and then the deceiver walks right in to steal, kill and destroy:

John 10:

1    "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber.

2    "But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep.

3    "To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

4    "When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.

5    "A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers."

6    This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them.

7    So Jesus said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

8    "All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.

9    "I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

10   "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

11   "I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.     (NASB)

Yoga is a grand deception by the enemy; it is all about deception.  After all, how can someone who wishes to harm you directly do so without you knowing it or until it is too late and the damage is done?  How else does someone get in and take advantage of you?  They trick you – that is how, and this is what yoga does.  People are scammed or fooled every day.  Evil people use deception, gain your confidence and “become your friend” or make you feel good in order to steal your money, harm you in other ways or even kill you.  The enemy Satan does the same thing, but in large-scale such as using other religions and pride/love of self --- and this comes together in yoga which exalts the individual as gods while attaining to the universe as god, which is really false and is oblivion/death.  These things hurt you, because they take you away from God and Messiah of the Bible.  Yoga hurts you and it deceives you to let your guard down in order to hurt you.

Remember, the tricks of the enemy must look good to deceive you or they will not work.  Indeed, God’s word tells us the enemy himself looks good in order to destroy us:

2 Corinthians 11:

14   No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.    (NASB)

Yoga comes like a sheep and light as supposedly being good for you, but it is really a ravenous wolf and darkness from Satan.  Yoga is a doctrine of demons coming from the master deceiver which God’s word warns us will become more and more prevalent in the end times and turn believers away from Bible truth.  Therefore, it is not surprising that yoga has grown so much so rapidly in the West over the last few decades; it being so prevalent everywhere is a sign of the times:

1 Timothy 4:

1   But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,    (NASB)

One reason why yoga is so dangerous is that it uses both physical and mental ways to deceive in order to gain access to you and destroy you spiritually.   We see this threefold danger of yoga (the physical, mental, spiritual) and know the enemy is behind it when we consider the fact that yoga involves the “kundalini” – the “coiled serpent power”.  This “kundalini” power sits at the base of your spine (where the 1st “chakra” is) and moves up through your spine and other “chakras” to the final one at the crown of your head, as it works to “awaken” your energy and consciousness.  As we said before, this energy/consciousness is not from YHWH or Messiah, but is from another and dark spirit – from the enemy, the serpent.

It cannot be emphasized enough.  Yoga has deceived many to believing it is harmless exercise and meditation, but it is a pathway for the enemy to come in and penetrate your armor.  The armor of God must be upon every part of our body and always ready to withstand any and all assaults upon us by the enemy:

Ephesians 6:

10   Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.

11   Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

12   For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

13   Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

14   Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

15   and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16   in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

17   And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18   With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,      (NASB)

We cannot just empty ourselves and give ourselves over to just anything.  What resides in us should be of the Almighty YAH and His son, our Messiah.  When we have them within us, our defenses are strong and cannot be broken into.  The way we know we have YAH and Yeshua in us is if we know and follow Bible truth.

If we are not doing something according to the Bible ONLY, then we must not just “let ourselves go” and “empty our minds” to hand over ourselves to something.  To do so is to not adhere to the Bible which means it will be without God and His blessing – and therefore what we hand ourselves over to and are now filled by is not of God, but will be of the world, of sin, of Satan – and it will be dangerous and deadly.

With the Bible truth not known or being followed, demonic forces take advantage.  The demons with their power and influences, with the lies, power of suggestion, our emotions, etc. create the empty slate that they want – and then they go on to fill it as they see fit.

There are some Christians who defend practicing yoga as being fine and harmless (just doing it on its own or as “Christian yoga”).  However, as we have read – all aspects of yoga, even the physical, are dangerous and come from false religion.  All Christians (all people, in fact) must be made aware of the dangers of yoga. We are told to imitate Christ and not do anything evil or that even appears to be evil.  We have God’s holy spirit within us – our bodies are the temple of the living God.  The cup of Christ cannot be shared with the cup of demons.  So how can it be defended that yoga is good when God commands us that His temple, which we are, must not fellowship or have anything to do with sin and darkness, idols, other gods and spirits?

2 Corinthians 6:

14   Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?

15   Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?

16   Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, "I will dwell in them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

17   "Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate," says the Lord. "And do not touch what is unclean; And I will welcome you.

18   "And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me," Says the Lord Almighty.     (NASB)

The fact that some believers do yoga indicates something bad has happened: they have had their armor compromised and penetrated by the enemy.   They have been deceived by the wolf and false angel of light.  In Ephesians 6, the shield of faith was not able to block the flaming arrows of the evil one from getting through (verse 16).  These arrows got through, because the belt of truth (verse 14) is not being used and neither is the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God (verse 17).  We must note that if one part of the armor fails, then they all fail.  All parts of the armor are required together and the armor of God is only as strong as the weakest link.  Therefore, all parts of the armor of God must be equally strong and used.  The Bible makes it undeniably clear that a believer should not be doing yoga.  If you did not know that, now you do – and so you must stop.

For again, what does light have to do with darkness?  The two cannot fellowship together.  Yoga is pagan and darkness from the enemy. But we are commanded to walk in light as God and Messiah are light:

1 John 1:

5    This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

6    If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

7    But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

8    If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9    If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

10   If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.   (NKJV)

We must not let the enemy take residence and control of our lives.  We must kick him out.  The way we do this is turn back to the Word of God, the Bible only, and turn away from the enemy.  If you earnestly seek God’s truth, then you will see that yoga is of another mind and spirit, and is against God and His word, and we therefore must leave immediately or do not get involved in the first place.

Our hearts and minds must be guarded against what are not of the Heavenly Father and Yeshua.  Our hearts and minds must be on them; they are what is true, just, lovely, and pure – not yoga which is pagan religion/occultism that only leads to death.  Let God and Messiah be the strong man within us that protects us from the enemy that only seeks to enter and steal, kill, and destroy.  We must let God and Messiah guard our hearts and minds and let them reside there:

Philippians 4:

6    Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

7    and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8    Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy --- meditate on these things.

9    The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.     (NKJV)

And that is the main thing.  We must go by the word of God only and focus only on our Heavenly Father and the one whom He sent, His only-begotten son who is our Messiah and savior by His atoning blood and love. In addition to the armor of God which we all need to be protected from the enemy, we above all must have God and Messiah in us to guard us and change us to conform to the image of His son:

Romans 8:

29   For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;    (NASB)

Ask yourself this question:  Would the Lord Yahusha (Yeshua/Jesus) do yoga?

NO.

And neither should we.

We must follow Bible truth and let YHWH God and His son, our Messiah be our defense, light and salvation.  When we let the two of them dwell in our temple, we will one day dwell in the house of the Almighty forever as He promised to those who love Him and walk in His truth:

Psalm 27:

1    The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?

2    When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell.

3    Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident.

4    One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple.

5    For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock.

6    And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.

7    Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice, And be gracious to me and answer me.

8    When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You, "Your face, O LORD, I shall seek."    (NASB)

In conclusion, the Bible makes it abundantly clear and without any doubt – the answer to the questions of what does the Bible say about yoga and if anyone or should Christians do yoga is this:

Should Christians do yoga?

---  Answer:  NO, absolutely not.

What does the Bible say about yoga?

---  Answer:  Yoga is extremely dangerous – and ALL people must stay away from yoga.  There is no such thing as “Christian yoga”.

Many have been deceived by the enemy Satan about what yoga really is.  It is of pagan origin and comes from the enemy; the enemy uses yoga to try to yoke you, unite you with him.  However, now that you know the truth, you must do something about it: YOU MUST STOP IMMEDIATELY or if you are not doing it, THEN DO NOT EVEN THINK OF DOING IT AT ALL.
